String of Pearls is one of the most iconic succulents in the world — long trailing strands of perfectly round bead-like leaves that cascade from a hanging pot in graceful curtains. In Indian homes it works beautifully on high shelves, in hanging baskets, or displayed on a plant stand where the trailing strands can fall freely.

Care Guide

☀️ Sunlight — Bright indirect light, 3–4 hours daily. Avoid direct harsh sun — the beads shrivel and bleach. East-facing window is ideal.

💧 Watering — Once every 12–15 days in summer. Every 25–30 days in monsoon. Overwatering is the most common cause of death — roots rot quickly.

🌱 Soil — Very well-draining mix: 40% cocopeat + 40% coarse river sand + 20% perlite.

🌡️ Temperature — Thrives in 18°C–28°C. Protect from extreme heat and AC cold blasts.

✂️ Maintenance tip — Shrivelled beads = thirsty. Mushy, translucent beads = overwatered. These are your two diagnostic signals — everything else is secondary.

String of Pearls grows at a moderate to fast pace in India, especially during October to March. Bright indirect light, occasional watering, and monthly diluted fertilizer during the growing season gives the best results.

Water String of Pearls once every 7–10 days in summer and every 14–20 days in winter. Let the top 2–3 cm of soil dry between waterings. Yellowing or mushy stems are the first sign of overwatering.

Yes! Take a healthy stem cutting of 8–10 cm, let it dry in shade for 2–3 days to callus, then place in moist well-draining soil. Keep in bright indirect light — roots usually appear within 2–4 weeks in Indian temperatures.

String of Pearls prefers bright indirect light and tolerates partial shade. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun which scorches leaves. A north or east-facing balcony or a bright indoor spot 1–2 metres from a window works well.
